Belize: Energy Resilience for Climate Adaptation
Belize faces high exposure to risks posed by extreme weather from tropical storms and hurricanes, the impacts of which are likely to be exacerbated because of climate change. Power system infrastructure in the country is especially exposed to these risks, especially the single-circuit radial transmission network. Extreme weather has led to power system damage and outages in the recent past. With financing from the World Bank, Belize is investing in proactively strengthening its energy infrastructure through various measures, including improving vulnerable transmission system infrastructure.
